THE STORY OF DHULIKHEL

Located at the heart of the hills, Dhulikhel lies 30km east of the Kathmandu valley. It is a small town populated mostly by newars following the other ethnic groups such as brahmans,chettris,tamangs. The mesmerizing scenes of the majestic mountains, the beautiful hills and the cultural old town is what makes it the lovely tourist destination.The cold weather and the fresh air makes the people more attracted and loved towards the place.

As per the myths, Dhulikhel got its name following different stories. one story says that a long time back Dhulikhel used to be the valley where the cold chasing wind used to blow around the hills. "Dhulo"( Dust) used to get mixed with the wind and blew around here thus, khel(play: refered to dust wind). Hence Dhulikhel, the place where  dusty wind used to blow.
According to another myth, the valley used to have dense jungle and tiger used to roam around there. In newari tiger is referred to as a "Dhu",thus got the name "Dhulikhel".
Similarly other stories are also present, explaining how Dhulikhel got its name.

People here are mostly engaged in business,some run hotels and lodges and few are farmers. Dhulikhel is also famous for its clean drinking water. The water of roshi river is filtered enough and connected to each household through pipe lines.

Different adventures like hiking,trekking and recently added zipline are available for people to try.
